Kauneimmat joululaulut / Finnish Christmas songs

Olen ollut taas töissä, vaikka parin päivän lepo ja lääkkeet eivät vielä poistanutkaan kaikkia oireitani. Olen nyt parina viime päivänä päässyt nauttimaan musiikista muutenkin kuin koulussa lastenlaulujen parissa. Perjantaina töiden jälkeen tapasin H:n Pariisin keskustassa ja kävelimme Seinen viertä Suomen suurlähetystölle, missä näin enemmän suomalaisia kuin ikinä ennen täällä Ranskassa. Siellä nimittäin järjestettiin perinteinen Kauneimmat joululaulut. Minulla ei ole täällä ollut vielä yhtään jouluinen olo, vaikka välillä säät ovat melko kylmät ja kaduilla on jouluvaloja välkkymässä, joten ajattelin hakea tunnelmaa tutuista suomalaisista joulun sävelistä. Paikalla oli noin 60 henkeä, suomalaisten seassa muutamia ranskalaista sekä joitakin muun maalaisia (lähinnä suomalaisten puolisoita, uskoisin). Lauloimme kaikki lehtisen tutut laulut ja kuulimme pari yksinlaulua välissä ja kaiken pääteeksi tarjolla oli joulutorttuja, pipareita sekä glögiä. Minun pettymyksekseni tarjolla oli vain punaviinillä terästettyä glögiä, joka tuoksui kyllä ihan hyvältä, mutta ei ollut sitten ollenkaan minun makuuni. Syötävät olivat silti herkullisia. Tapasin joululaulajaisissa myös puoliksi suomalaisen puoliksi ranskalaisen tytön, jonka kanssa olimme kesällä lentäneet Suomeen samalla koneella ja olimme Pariisin kentällä päätyneet juttelemaan kummankin soitettua siellä pianoa. Tytön äitikin yllättyi minut nähdessään, sillä oli kuullut tyttäreltään pianoa soittaneesta suomalaisesta.

[I have been working again even though the rest of a couple of days and the medicines have not taken away all of my symptoms. During the last two days I have got chances to enjoy music also otherwise than just the children's songs at the school. After my work on Friday, I met H in the center of Paris and we walked along Seine to the embassy of Finland where I saw more Finns than ever before here in France. It is because they organized Kauneimmat joululaulut, "The most beautiful Christmas songs" which is a popular event all around Finland before the Christmas when people go to churches to sing. Despite the sometimes cold weather and the Christmas lights on the streets, I have not had the Christmas feeling at all yet, so I thought off getting the feeling from the familiar Finnish Christmas melodies. There were around 60 people there, among the Finns also some French and a few people from other countries (mostly the spouses of the Finns, I guess). We sang all the familiar songs from the booklet (they use a special booklet for Kauneimmat joululaulut and it's the same all around Finland), listened to a couple of solo performances and at the end enjoyed Finnish Christmas pies, gingerbread and glögi (a Finnish Christmas drink that reminds hot wine but doesn't always include any alcohol drink). To my disappointment, they only had glögi mixed with some red wine that smelled quite good but it was not to my taste at all. The pastries were delicious though. I met at the embassy also the half Finnish half French girl whom I had met at Paris airport when we flew to Finland for summer on the same flight. We ended up talking at the airport because we both played piano there and now also this girl's mother was surprised to see me because her daughter had told her about a Finn playing piano.]

Mahtava konsertti / A great concert

Työpaikkani tarjosi kaikille työntekijöilleen joululahjaksi liput konserttiin, jonka tulot lahjoitettiin vammaisten lasten hyväksi. Pari kollegaani eivät kuitenkaan päässet paikan päälle ja sain heidänkin lippunsa, jotka voin antaa kavereilleni. Kutsuin H:n ja S:n (CE-kaverini), mutta S perui kuitenkin tulonsa konserttipäivänä. Matkustimme siis H:n kanssa Villeboniin, joka on lähelle aluetta jossa työskentelen, ja junasta noustuamme saimme vielä kävellä hyvän matkaa tihkusateen läpi kulttuurikeskus Jaques Breliin. Etukäteen tiesin konsertista vain, että siellä on soittamassa kolme ilmeisesti suhteellisen tunnettua pianistia, joten kuvittelin sen lähinnä klassiseksi konsertiksi. Paikan päällä selvisi kuitenkin, että pianoilla olisi säestäjinä rumpali, kitaristi, saksofonisti ja kontrabasisti. Kokoonpano ja musiikki olivat mielestäni kuin jostakin elokuvasta muutaman vuosikymmenen takaa. Uskomattoman hieno kokemus eikä kaduttanut yhtään lähteä sinne, vaikka kotiinpaluu venyi yli puolen yön.

[As a Christmas present, my workplace gave tickets to a concert which gave all the proceeds to disabled children. A couple of my colleagues couldn't go there so they gave their tickets to me so that I can invite some friends, too. I invited H and S (CE friend), but S cancelled on the concert day. So I traveled with H to Villebon which is close to the area where I work, and after getting off from the train we still needed to walk quite a bit through drizzle to the cultural center Jaques Brel. Beforehand I knew only that there would be three somewhat famous pianists playing there so I was expecting a classical concert. At the place I found out that the pianos had a drummer, a guitarist a saxophonist and a contrabassoon as accompanists. The assembly and the music were like from a movie some decades ago. An unbelievably amazing experience and I could not regret going there at all even though it was past midnight before I got home.]  

Turvassa levottomassa Pariisissa / Safe in restless Paris

Pariisissa oli eilen (ja muutamina muinakin päivinä viime aikoina) melkoinen meno keskustan alueella, kun keltaliivien lisäksi kaduilla mellastivat heitäkin intensiivisemmin mustiin pukeutuneet "black bloc" -anarkistit. Luin Facebookin suomalaisten ryhmästä kertomuksia, joita lähempänä keskustaa asuvat suomalaiset olivat nähneet ja kokeneet kotinsa lähellä ja meno totisesti oli hurjaa. Uutiskuvat kertovat paljon. Minulla ei kuitenkaan ole mitään hätää täällä, sillä oma asuinalueeni on normaalin rauhallinen. On siinä hyvät puolensa, että asuu aivan Pariisin etelä-reunamilla ja täältä lähden usein vielä etelän suuntaan, kun menen töihin tai H:lle tai vaikka eiliseen konserttiin. Luksusmuija selviää!

[There was quite a racket around the center of Paris yesterday (and also on some other days recently) when in addition to the yellow vests there were also the "black bloc" anarchists rioting even more intensively. I was reading stories on Facebook where Finns living closer to the center wrote about what they saw or experienced nearby their homes and it surely sounded terrific. News photos tell a lot. I am okay here and my area is as peaceful as usually. It does have good sides living very close to the Southern boarder of Paris and I even go more to the South when I go to work, to H or for example to the concert yesterday. The luxury chick (=luksusmuija) is surviving!]
