[After returning back to France from Finland, I realized that it had been exactly one year since I signed a working contract to a bilingual school. That time I would have not believed that I would return after a whole year still to teach 4-5-year-old children in English, and take care of after-school kids and some private lessons in between, as well as dress up and look after the other children at school, too. It just is so that sometimes you cannot know where the life takes you. At the moment, I have no idea where I will be in January 2020.]
Ensimmäisenä viikonloppunani täällä minulla oli aikaa ja energiaa lähteä käymään keskustassa kumpanakin päivänä, kun työt eivät olleet vielä alkaneet. Lauantaina H:n bändi soitti kadunvarrella ja minä lähdin heitä katsomaan ja fiilistelemään. Hyvä musiikki sai tälläkin kertaa ohikulkijat pysähtymään ja antamaan kolikoita. Matkalla soittopaikalle näin ensimmäistä kertaa itse livenä keltaliivisiä mielenosoittajia, jotka jatkavat yhä lauantaisia marssejaan. Mellakointia en onneksi nähnyt satojen ihmisten edetessä rauhallisesti katua eteenpäin Macronin vastaisia kylttejä pidellen.
[On my first weekend here I had time and energy to go to the center on both days since my work had not yet started. On Saturday H's band was playing on the street and I went to see them and get a good feeling. The good music made passersby to stop and give coins also this time. On the way to the playing spot I saw for the first time the protesters with yellow vests on live with my own eyes. They still continue their demonstrations on Saturdays but luckily I didn't see any rioting when hundreds of people walked calmly on the streets holding plaques against Macron's policy.]

Loppiainen oli kuukauden ensimmäinen sunnuntai eli monet museot tarjosivat ilmaisen sisäänpääsyn, joten me päätimme jatkaa joulukuussa aloitettua Louvren kierrostamme. Istuessani metroon vastapäätä minua istui alas myös kolmen kiinalaisen naisen seurue, joka aloitti yllättäen keskustelut kanssani. Ranskaksi. Netissäkin oli lukenut, että se ei maksa mitään kyseisenä päivänä, joten meillä ei ollut hajuakaan, miksi meidän olisi pitänyt maksaa lipuista. Päätimme siis palata sinne toiste ja vaihtaa kohdetta. Otimme metrot lähellä Eiffel-tornia sijaitsevalle Guimet-museolle, jossa on esillä aasialaista taidetta. Siellä sitten olikin ilmaisen sisäänpääsyn mukainen 100 metrin jono, jossa seisoimme lähes tunnin.
[Epiphany was the first Sunday of the month which means many museums offer free entries so we decided to continue our visit Louvre that we started in December. In the metro there were three Chinese women sitting opposite to me and they suddenly started a conversation with me. In French. They asked where I was going to and told me they headed to the church. They found out that I also am a Christian and that I also moved quite recently to Paris and that I also don't speak too good French. However, they didn't speak any English so there we sat and chatted stammering with the local language but we had fun. We even gave each other our phone numbers in order to meet again. After I met with H and we got to Louvre, we found out that it was not free this time. It was written also online that it is free on that day so we had no idea why we should have bought tickets. Consequently, we decided to come back later and go elsewhere. We took metros close to Eiffel tower to the Guimet museum that has Asian art. And there was a line of 100 meters as you would expect to have when it's a free entry and we stood there for an hour to get inside.]

Työt ovat nyt jatkuneet parin viikon ajan. Kaikki on suhteellisen samanlaista kuin syksylläkin, mitä nyt muutama uusi lapsi aloitti meillä (yksi minun luokallani), mutta todellisen haasteen meille on tuonut assistanttien sairastelu. Ensimmäisenä koulupäivänä loman jälkeen koulumme kumpikin assistantti oli sairaslomalla, joten hoidimme yli 30 lasta kollegani kanssa kahdestaan. Kaiken lisäksi loman jälkeen lapset toivat kaikki makuupussinsa ja muut tarvikkeensa taas koululle, joten meidän piti myös purkaa ne kaikki. Toinen assistantti palasi töihin onneksi heti seuraavana päivänä, mutta toinen oli pidempään kipeänä ja jouduimme kikkailemaan saadaksemme kaiken toimimaan. Kyllä vaan vaikuttaa pienessä koulussa kun yksikin aikuisista on pois. Valitettavasti minäkin nyt aiheutin samanlaista hankaluutta koululla, kun sain itsekin sairaslomaa täksi ja huomiseksi päiväksi. Niin sitä vain pärjättiin terveenä Suomen pakkasissa, mutta Ranskassa sitten saan flunssan ja korvatulehduksen jälleen kerran... Tiedä sitten, onko suurin syy ympärilläni olevat lapset (jotka myös sairastelevat välillä), Pariisin huonompi ilma verrattuna Suomeen vai työn aiheuttama stressi. Lääkäri kun tuumasi, että kyllä kroppa reagoi omalla tavallaan jatkuvaan stressiin.
[My work has continued for a couple of week again. Everything is relatively similar to the autumn, though we had a few new kids starting (one of which in my class), but the real challenge has been caused by our sick assistants. On the first school day after the vacation both of our assistants were on a sick-leave so we had to take care of over 30 children just the two of us with my colleague. In addition, the children brought their sleeping bags etc back to school, so we also needed to unpack all of those. One of the assistants luckily returned to work already on the next day but the other one was sick for a longer time and we needed to come up with gimmicks to make everything work. It surely affect in a small school when even one of the adults is absent. Unfortunately I caused the same problem, as well. The doctor told me to stay home today and tomorrow. It is interesting that I had no problem remaining healthy in the cold weather in Finland but in France I get a flu and an otitis once again... Who knows if the biggest reason for this is the children around me (because they also get sick), the worse quality of the air in Paris compared to Finland or the stress at my work. My doctor also said that the body will react to continuous stress on its way.]
