[The beginning of my vacation has been very wonderful and refreshing! It has been nice to talk with the au pair mother, to do things with the boys (even though sometimes it is more difficult to get contact with them than earlier because they are getting more independent) and to get to know the present au pair. The boys are at school until the afternoon so even though I came here to also help them, daytime I am free to go where I want. On Monday I went shopping on the outdoor market Albert Cuypstraat and rewarded myself for not shopping in Paris until now. It is cheaper here after all wheb you know where to go. In the afternoon we took the children to their football trainings withthe present au pair. They surely have enough hobbies so the life of the au pair in this family is no more planning how to soend the day with the children.]
Tiistaina aamupäivällä otimme nykyisen au pairin kanssa pyörät ja poljimme Amsterdamse Bosiin, suureen puistoon muutaman kilometrin päässä. Perheen äiti oli kehunut meille sen kirsikankukka-puutarhaa. Matkalla puistoon jäimme hetkeksi ihmettelemään ja ihastelemaan taloja, jotka oli rakennettu lauttojen päälle. Olisipa ihana omistaa moinen vaikka kesämökkinä! Itse puisto oli aivan valtava ja jouduimme tämän tästä tarkistamaan kartasta, että käännymme sen lukuisilla teillä oikeaan suuntaan. Ihastuimme paikkaan kuitenkin yhä enemmän ja enemmän siellä pyöräillessämme, sillä se toi mieliimme Suomen metsät ja pellot keskellä rauhallista maaseutua. Täysin vastakkaista suurkaupungin keskustan vilinään. Ja kirsikkapuut vasta ihania olivatkin! Jos olisimme tajunneet ottaa piknik-tarvikkeet, eikä meidän olisi muutaman tunnin päästä tarvinnut hakea poikia koulusta, olisimme varmaan viettäneet koko lopun päivää siellä.
[Tuesday morning we took bicycles with the present au pair and we cycled to Amsterdamse Bos, a big park a few kilometres away. The mother of the family had recommended its cherry blossom garden for us. On the way to the park we stayed for a while wondering and admiring houses that were built on ferries. Hiw great it would be to own one as a summer cottage! The park itself was enormous and we every now and then we had to check from the map that we are taking the right turn at the crossings. We fell in love more and more with the place when we cycled through the landscapes that reminded us of the forests and fields in Finland. A complete opposite to the bustle of the centre of the city. And what about the cherry trees then! If we had been clever enough to take picnic stuff with us and if we didn't need to pick up the boys from the school after a few hours, we would have probably spent the rest of the day there.]
Tänään oli vielä eilistä lämpimämpi päivä (selvästi yli 20°C) ja päätin nauttia siitä keskustaa kierrellen. Pyörän päällä noin 15 minuuttia, pyörä lukkoon Keizersgrachtin varrelle ja jalkapatikalla taloja ja kanaaleja ihailemaan. Pakko mainita, että itseä hirvittäisi, jos joutuisin parkkeeraamaan auton ilman minkäänlaisia kaiteita kanaalin edessä... Kuninkaallisen palatsin aukiolla pääsin nauttimaan myös katutaiteesta. Ennen kotiin paluuta pysähdyin vielä Vondelparkissa, joka oli täynnä muita picnic-seurueita.
[Today was even warmee than yesterday (way over 20°C) ans I decided to enjoy it going around in the centre. On a bicycle for 15 minutes, locking it next to Keizersgracht and walking around admiring the houses and the canals. I have to mention that I would be scated to park the car without any kind of fence in front of the canal. At the royal palace square I got to enjoy also some street performance. Before going home I stopped by in Vondelpark which was full of other picnicers too.]
