[My working day on Tuesday was quite similar to my first day at the preschool but it was maybe a tiny bit easier. Knowing the schedule of the day with going outs and others helped me, and the afternoon was different. Another teacher took care of the children of our preschool while I had a lesson with older kids. I taught English for 8-10-year-old children and even though their English is not on the same level as my class has, the lesson was easier for me because older children could keep their concentration better than my pupils.]
Keskiviikkoisin minulla ei ole töitä ollenkaan. Ja täytyy sanoa, että ainakin tällä viikolla tuntui tavattoman hyvältä saada taukoa kahden työpäivän jälkeen. Koska serkkuni perheineen sattuu vielä olemaan Pariisissa, niin liityin heidän mukaansa Eiffelin tornille. Kelit eivät ole olleet parhaimmat parina viime päivänä, eikä nyt kai pitäisi olla turistikausi enää, kun arki on alkanut joulun lomien jälkeen, mutta jonoa tornilla kyllä riitti. Lapset jaksoivat hyvin jonottaa, kun saivat roikkua kaiteissa, nakertaa välipalaa ja ihmetellä kaikenlaisia killuttimia roikkumassa minun laukussani. Vaikka olenkin jo kahdesti aiemmin käynyt Eiffelin tornin huipulla, niin maisemia oli silti kiva katsella tälläkin kertaa. Aikaa paloi yhteensä 3 tuntia tornin alueella jonotuksineen muineen. Ei siis kannata suunnitella ihan pikaista reissua sinne.
[I don't have work on Wednesdays at all. And I have to say that at least this week it felt amazing to have some break after two days at work. Because my cousin and her family still happen to be in Paris, I joined them to visit Eiffel tower. The weather has not been the best for the last two days and I wouldn't think it is a tourist season since Christmas holidays are over, but there surely was a line in there.The kids were queuing so nicely when they got to play monkeys around the fences, got some snack and got to wonder all the interesting things hanging from my bag. Even though I have visited Eiffel tower already twice before this, it was still great to watch the view. It took 3 hours all together with queuing and such before we got out. You should not plan just a quick visit in there.]
Illalla kävelin hieman ympäriinsä ja poikkesin katsomassa Pantheonia, jonne on haudattu mm. Marie Curie ja Voltaire. Sisään en kylläkään päässyt enää myöhäisen ajankohdan vuoksi. Sen sijaan tuli käytyä elokuvissa katsomassa Downshifting. Mielenkiintoinen elokuva, mutta syystä tai toisesta sen aikana iski koti-ikävä ja kaipasin Suomeen ensimmäistä kertaa tänne saapumisen jälkeen. Oli se kai jo aika, kun ensimmäiset päivät menivät niin mukavasti ilman ikävää...
[In the evening I walked a bit around and went to see the Pantheon that has the graves among others for Marie Curie and Voltaire. I couldn't get inside though because it was rather late. Instead I got to go to a cinema to watch Downshifting. An interesting movie but for a reason or another I started to miss home for the first time after arriving to France. Well, I guess it was time for that since the first days here went so smoothly without homesickness...]
Tänään oli taas täysi työpäivä ja hirmu rankkaa. Vaikka aikataulut ovat tutut ja opin vähitellen pienempienkin oppilaiden luokan lasten nimiä, niin iltapäivä sai puristettua minusta totisesti mehut ulos. Tänään opetin jälleen eskarimme ulkopuolisia lapsia, mutta he olivat vasta 5-vuotiaita ja englannin taso todella heikkoa. Luulen, etteivät he ymmärrä puoliakaan siitä, mitä heille puhun. Alun askartelu meni vielä ihan mukavasti, kun voin näyttää eleillä niin paljon, mutta kolmen vartin jälkeen varsinaisen esikoulumme eskari-ajan jälkeen kollegani lähtivät ja sain kaikki vielä vanhempiansa odottavat lapset valvontaani iltapäiväkerholaisten sekaan. Koska iltapäiväkerholaisten pitäisi kuulla ja oppia mahdollisimman paljon englantia, niin minun tuli pitää hallinnassani lähes 20 3-5-vuotiasta lasta myöhään iltapäivällä ja keksiä kiinnostavaa englanninkielistä tekemistä pienissä tiloissa hyvin vaihtelevalla kielitasolla. Jossain kohtaa tuntui, ettei minulla vain riitä rahkeet moiseen hommaan.
[Today I had a full working day again and it was very tough. Even though the timetables and bit by bit the names of the class with smaller children are becoming familiar, the afternoon squeezes the energy out of me. Today I was teaching again kids from outside our preschool but they were only 5 years old and the knowledge of English minor. I think they couldn't understand even half of what I said. Making crafts in the beginning went quite smoothly since I could show so much but after 45 minutes when the actual preschool time of our preschool ended, my colleagues left and I had to look after all the children who were still waiting for their parents, as well as my afternoon class kids. Because the afternoon class children should hear and learn as much English as possible, I had to keep together almost 20 3-5-year-old children and come up with interesting activities in small rooms for kids whose level of English varies a lot. At some point I just felt I don't have what it takes to do that.]
