[During the last week I have made my social circle a little bit bigger here. Exactly a week ago I met a young French woman who is interested in learning Finnish. She had contacted the Facebook group for Finnish people in Paris and asked for help. We agreed to help each other, I with Finnish and she with French. I have intended to study French on courses or some other way but I had not done anything for it yet. This kind of mutual helping is at least cheaper than most of French courses, so I also got excited signing for conversation exchange website. There one can look for people who are willing to do this kind of mutual language exchange. And after creating a profile I got several contacts in a few days both from French people and from Japanese people who wanted to practice speaking in English.]
Eilen töiden jälkeen tapasinkin kaksi ihmistä, jotka olivat ottaneet minuun yhteyttä kyseisen sivuston kautta. Ranskalainen seurani kierrätti minua 11. kaupunginosassa ihanan ranskalaisissa ympäristöissä. Kävimme mm. Pariisin vanhimmassa puistossa, Victor Hugon talossa, pätkällä vanhaa Pariisin muuria sekä useissa gallerioissa. Kävelyn aikana vesisade muuttui lumisateeksi. Iskee se takatalvi näköjään täälläkin.
[Yesterday after my work I met two of the people who had contacted me on that website. My French company took me around on the 11th district and showed me wonderfully French environments. Among other things, we visited the oldest park in Paris, the house of Victor Hugo, a part of the old wall of Paris and many galleries. During walking the rain turned into snow. It seems that there is a cold spell in spring here as well (as in Finland every year).]

Myöhemmin tapasin vielä erään japanilaisen, sillä tahdon myös reenata japaniani, jota olen Eurooppaan paluun jälkeen harvemmin päässyt puhumaan. Pari tuntia mukavassa kahvila-ravintolassa meni höpötellen japaniksi, kun puhuimme kokemuksistamme eri maissa ja vähän kaikesta muustakin. Oli kiva huomata, etten ole vielä unohtanut kuin joitakin sanoja siitä kaikesta, mitä opin vaihtovuotenani.
[Later I met a Japanese because I want to train also my Japanese which I have hardly spoken after returning to Europe. A couple of hours in a nice cafe restaurant passed quickly when talking in Japanese about our experiences in different countries and about many other things. It was nice to notice I had only forgotten some words of all the things I learned during my exchange year.]
Viikolla tapasin myös erään ystäväni, johon olin tutustunut Japanissa. Hän oli töidensä puolesta käymässä Ranskassa, jossa on myös aiemmin asunut. Oli ihanaa päästä juttelemaan tutun kanssa kaikista kokemuksista, sillä ainoa kunnollinen juttukaverini täällä on ollut H. Nyt kun paikat ja tavat ovat tulleet jollakin lailla tutuiksi, niin sosiaalisen piirin laajentaminen tuntuu ihan kivalta vaihtelulta.
[During the I met also my friend that I got in Japan. She came to France for her work and it was great to get to talk about all the experiences because the only real friend here to talk to has been H. Now that the places and habits have become familiar, it feels nice change to enlarge my social network.]
Ja pitää nyt vielä hehkuttaa maanantaista työpäivää, kun koin onnistumisen elämyksen useaan otteeseen. Lapsilla on suhteellisen vähän aikaa liikkumiselle esikoulupäivän aikana. Olenkin harmitellut, kun niinä lyhyinä puistossa olo -aikoina, kun olisi mahdollisuus purkaa energiaa ja juosta, pari ujompaa lasta lähinnä vain seisoo paikoillaan. Kunnon leikeille ei ole aikaa, mutta maanantaina päätin innostaa heitä edes juoksemaan vähän. Lapset innostuivatkin juoksemaan perässäni puiston päästä päähän ja pian kolmasosa kaikista koulun lapsista juoksenteli ympärilläni. Olen jatkanut tätä juoksuttamista seuraavinakin päivinä ja huomannut, että ujot lapset juoksevat enemmän ilmankin minua. Toinen onnistumisen elämys tuli iltapäivällä, kun välipalan jälkeen olin vastuussa kaikista reilusta paristakymmenestä eskarimme lapsesta ja onnistuin keksimään mielekästä englanninkielistä yhteistä puuhaa 45 minuutin ajan ja pitämään väsyneet lapset kasassa. (Ei meinaan ole helppoa saada heidän huomiotaan kokonaan myöhään iltapäivällä.) Kolmas mieleen painunut hetki oli, kun ujo tyttö, jolle annan yksityistunteja, halasi minua yllättäen tunnin lopuksi. Oli palkitsevaa huomata, että hän pitää minusta, vaikka ei voikaan tunnin aikana paeta minun kysymyksiäni ja kehoituksiani toistamaan.
[I still have to mention my working day on Monday when I felt many times that I succeeded. The children have quite little time for moving during their preschool day. And I have been annoyed that during those short times in the parks when the kids have time to run, a couple of shy kids are mostly just standing there. I don't have time to create a proper play for them but on Monday I decided to make them even run a little bit. And they did get excited running after me around the park and soon third of all the children were running around me. I have continued this running on the next days too and I have noticed that the shy kids run more even without me. The second time I felt I made well on Monday was when I was in charge of all the children (more than 20) after the snack. I managed to come up with interesting things to do with all of them in English for 45 minutes and controlled the tired children. (I can say it is not easy to get their full attention late in the afternoon.) The third thing that is kept in my memory was the moment when I shy girl to whom I give private lessons, hugged my suddenly at the end of the lesson. It was rewarding the notice she likes me even though she is not able to escape my questions or requests to repeat during the lessons.]
