[Christmas is getting closer and I also start getting ready for the Christmas vacation. I have had more than enough things to do at work when I have been filling children's evaluations that have many pages in them. Day by day I feel more and more that the two-week vacation really is needed. Only two days of work left and on Saturday I will head to Charles de Gaulle airport from where I fly to Riga and from there home to Finland. Seemingly I get to enjoy what I have wished for: a white Christmas!]
Täällä ei ole lunta näkynyt sen jälkeen, kun marraskuun lopulla kerran satoi räntää. Mutta joulutunnelmaa olen hakenut ja löytänyt välillä kuitenkin. Toinen H:n bändeistä piti keskustassa keikan tonttulakit päässä ja olivatpa opetelleet myös soittamaan "Kulkuset". Ohikulkijat pysähtyivät fiilistelemään ja kuvaamaan kylmästä säästä huolimatta.
[There has not been any snow here after it was sleeting one time at the end of November. But I have found some Christmas feeling sometimes. One of H's bands had a gig in the center and they had the Christmas hats and they had even learned to play "Jingle bells". People stopped to enjoy the atmosphere and to film despite the cold weather.]

Toissapäivänä halusimme H:n kanssa käydä töiden jälkeen vilkaisemassa Pariisin joulutoria Champs Elysees'n varrella. Se kuitenkin on luultavasti peruutettu alueella tapahtuvien mielenosoitusten takia, sillä kadulla ei ollut yhden yhtä kojua. No, isosta kaupungista löytyy kuitenkin monta joulutoria, joten otimme metron Notre Damen hujakkeille. Mutta sielläkin meitä oli vastassa vain koristeltu kuusi. Ja Hotel de Villen joulutori oli jo siltä illalta sulkenut porttinsa. Aina ei voi näköjään onnistaa, mutta olipa kuitenkin ihanan tunnelmallista kävellä Pariisin kaduilla sen kaikkine valaistuksineen.
[The day before yesterday we wanted to go to see the Christmas market on Champs Elysees with H. But probably it has been cancelled due to the demonstrations on that area because we couldn't find even one stand there. Well, in a big city you can find many Christmas markets so we took metros to Notre Dame. But also there we were able to find only a decorated tree. And the Christmas market at Hotel de Ville had already closed its gates for that day. One cannot always be lucky, it seems, but at least it was atmospheric to walk on the streets of Paris with all of its lights.]

Eilinen ilta venyi minulle poikkeuksellisen myöhään, sillä palasin kotiin vasta yhdentoista jälkeen. Koulumme johtaja kutsui kaikki työntekijänsä yhteiselle illalliselle läheiseen ravintolaan Orsayssa. Raskaan työpäivän jälkeen oli hauskaa viettää iltaa kollegoiden kesken ja saada lisää tiimihenkeä pienen koulumme aikuisten välille. Ruoka oli hyvää, puhuttavaa riitti (yli puolet keskusteluista käytiin ranskaksi, mutta minäkin ymmärsin niistä enemmän kuin 50%) ja kaiken kruunasi johtajan joululahjat meille kaikille.
[Yesterday evening ended up to be much later than my usual since I returned home after eleven. Our school had invited all of its employees for a dinner to a restaurant nearby our school in Orsay. After a tough day at work it was fun to spend time with the colleagues and get more team spirit among the adults of our school. The food was good, there was a lot to talk about (over half of the conversations were in French but also I understood more than 50% of those) and the cherry on the top were the Christmas presents that the headmaster gave for everyone.]

Tänään minun pitää harjoitella hieman ukuleleni kanssa. Pidämme perjantaina koululla kaikkien yhteisen joulujuhlan ja minä ja H esitämme pienen konsertin. Siitä tulee hauskaa ja lapset varmasti pitävät kitarasta ja trumpetista minun ainaisen ukuleleni lisäksi!
[Today I need to practice with my ukulele. We are going to have a Christmas celebration at school with everyone and me and H will give a small concert. It will be fun and the children will surely like the guitar and the trumpet that will accompany my ukulele that they already know so well.]
